Learn About Camp Binyan Torah

Our Philosophy

Camp Binyan Torah (CBT) is a fun and innovative summer experience designed to provide teenage boys with a unique opportunity to build with their hands as well as with their minds. It is our goal to give Jewish boys a chance to learn and practice essential trades in the field of construction amidst a warm family environment conducive to self growth and Torah learning. With hands-on projects, meaningful learning, Shabbatonim, competitive sports, exciting trips, and fun night activities, Camp Binyan Torah promises to be a truly unforgettable summer!

Construction

One of the unique aspects of CBT is our focus on practical construction. Every morning campers are exposed to valuable trades such as carpentry, electric, framing, automotive, painting, plumbing, masonry, and more. We believe that the experience boys gain from working with each other and with expert sub-contractors in each of these fields will prove to be extremely useful in their lives. Through construction, our campers discover the capability within themselves to create and acheive. CBT campers emerge with new skills and much added confidence, and return from camp with a new found sense of just how much they can accomplish.

Learning

Part of the afternoon in CBT is spent in the Beit Midrash, where we make it a priority to provide our campers with a rich Torah experience. This includes the opportunity to learn about and discuss relevant, contemporary issues that arise in the lives of virtually all Jewish teenaged boys. During this time campers can discuss topics which interest them that they may not have the chance to speak about in the typical classroom setting. These group discussions take place under the direction of rebbeim and counselors and are guided by Torah sources. Campers also have the option during this and other learning sessions to choose from among several different subjects, including halacha (Jewish law), parsha (weekly Torah portion), gemara (Talmud), mussar (ethics and self development), and more.

Environment

Every boy in Camp Binyan Torah receives the individual attention he needs to flourish in his personal growth. It is through such care and amidst a warm environment that CBT campers develop long lasting relationships with their counselors, rebbeim, and the greater CBT family. Whether it is with a chavrusa, rav, waiter, counselor, or with our "Camp Mom and Dad," our campers are given the resources to grow together – and to enjoy themselves at the same time!

Additional Activities and Highlights

To round out our exciting program, CBT offers a variety of fun-filled trips, night activities, and sports. Off campus trips taken in recent summers include the Kings Dominion and Busch Gardens amusement parks, hiking and overnight camping in the Shenandoah National Park, boating and rafting, and more. Swimming, miniature golf, minor-league baseball games, bowling, and laser-tag are a few of the many night-time highlights in camp. Furthermore, part of our daily schedule includes both organized and informal basketball, football, softball, soccer, and ultimate frisbee, as well as time to just relax.

The Miller School

Camp Binyan Torah takes place on the campus of The Miller School of Albemarle County, VA, just west of Charlottesville. The 95 acre campus is set among the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and is the perfect place for a beautiful, scenic, serene camp setting. The Miller School provides us with a fully equipped construction workshop, multiple sports fields, an indoor gym, a pool and a lake, a functioning canteen area, and much more. These and other excellent facilities, such as the dormitory, cafeteria, classrooms, and library, afford us the opportunity to provide a summer experience unlike any other.
